With fully 15 story beats to hit over pages Save the Cat gave writers both a well-lit pathway through those dark narrative woods and a way to quickly filter out the stories worth developing to full screenplay stage. As far as Snyder goes, this is for the most part his type of movie: clear Catalyst, and act break moments combine with a strong-ish Bad Guys Close In sequence, and a similarly successful Dark Night of the Soul section. Which probably explains its huge success, ultimately. Wish is true? In the end, the film seems to argue that both are, as Alison learns to accept Ben for who he is, and Pete appears to reign in his excesses fantasy baseball league etc.

This is from the same man who made The Year-Old Virgin and like that film this one here isn't afraid to attack stereotypes but the director is smart enough to add some serious moments to the mix. We've seen countless raunchy comedies in the past but this film here throws in a heart and some serious moments that makes the film a lot better than it would have been in lesser hands.
Originally a stand-up comedian in Vancouver, he moved to Los Angeles for a part in Judd Apatow 's series Freaks and Geeks , and then got a part on the sitcom Undeclared , which also hired him as a writer. After landing his job as a staff writer on the final season of Da Ali G Show , Apatow guided Rogen toward a film career. His first movie appearance was a minor role in Donnie Darko Rogen was cast in a supporting role and credited as a co-producer in Apatow's directorial debut, The Year-Old Virgin. He also serves as a writer, executive producer, and director, with Goldberg. As a child, Rogen did not want to pursue any career other than comedy, stating, "As soon as I realized you could be funny as a job, that was the job I wanted. They initially worried that American Pie had beaten them to the idea for the movie, but they decided that the film "'managed to totally avoid all honest interaction between characters,' which is what we're going for.
